Dale go Pink
When Dale College of King William's Town play ancient rivals Selborne College on 4 August (2012), they will wear pink – pink jerseys and pink shorts.
This is a part of the CANSA (Cancer Association of South Africa) awareness week and the need to become part of an educational drive about cancer awareness and the way it affects the lives of so many of all ages and circumstances.
It is especially relevant in the Eastern Cape where, it is said, only 20% of children survive cancer, only because the community do not know what to look for when illness presents itself.
The week of 30 July to 4 August is Cancer awareness week. The Dale First XV play Selborne College on 4 August in King William’s Town on the CB Jennings Field at Dale and it will be the Dale Pink Day, for the Dale First XV will wear pink jerseys and pink shorts with their traditional red and black socks and the Golden Heron on the breast. Their numbers will be black to remind them of those who have died of cancer and in black on their sleeves will be Dale College/the Old Dalian Union.
There will be an educational programme during the week and a collection of moneys to help CANSA in their research, educational campaign and support of cancer victims.
Dale intend to make this an annual event and hope that other schools will also join in.
