Dale in Border Clash

On Saturday, 17 August, Queen's College will descend from their cold mountain to ancient rivals, Dale College of King William's Town for an FNB Classic Clash on Dale's Reunion Day.

They have been playing each other since 1891 with fluctuating fortunes.

Both are boys' schools with strong boarding departments, which always help sport. Both have increasing numbers of Xhosa-speaking boys who clearly enjoy the traditions of the schools.

There will be many Old Boys at Dale for the match and the school has used the opportunity to increase awareness of cancer and to raise funds. Instead of their usual black and red hoops, Dale will be wearing pink.

Season so Far

Dale have not had a good season by their high standards. Last year they had a brilliant team that won 15 of its 19 matches, drew two and lost two. This year they have won nine of their 22 matches and lost the other 13, including last week's defeat at the hands of Hudson Park, a rare occurrence indeed. Of the top schools they have played, they have not beaten one of them.

Queen's on the other hand have just reached the FNB Top 20 after winning their last eight matches in a row.
