Daniel Pienaar win thriller
In a thrilling FNB Classic Clash played at HTS Daniel Pienaar in Uitenhage, the home side just beat Die Brandwag 28-23 when they scored in the last minute. This report is from Die Brandwag.
What a pulsating game! Probably extremely tense and nail biting stuff to all supporters and coaching staff, but spectacular to all the impartial spectators!
This classic thriller went right down to the wire, with both teams locked at 23-all in the last minute of the match.
The match as a whole could probably be summed up as DP controlling most of the first half with Brandwag dominating most play in the second half.
At 23-all and the last two minutes looming on the clock Brandwag launched an attack from within their own 22m area – an attack that resulted in an overlap for the right wing, running all of 50-plus metres, beating two more cross defenders to score under the posts – ONLY to be called back by the referee to their own 22m where a scrum had to be set for a last forward pass to the right wing.
It was from this very scrum that Daniël Pienaar launched their own backline attack, scoring in the right hand corner, awarded only after the referee had consulted the touch judge on a possible forward loss of the ball whilst going over for the try.
The try was awarded, the conversion missed and with time up on the score board, Brandwag kicked off, DP controlled the kick off and their scrumhalf sealed the victory by kicking straight into touch.
