Daniël Pienaar win FNB Classic
Match Report
HTS Daniël Pienaar beat Die Brandwag 34-16 in an FNB Classic Clash in Uitenhage on Saturday.
At half-time Daniël Pienaar led 22-10 in an exciting match played in beautiful weather before some 3 000 spectators.
Both teams gave the ball air, which ensured that it was an attractive match.
Daniël Pienaar scored two excellent tries and led 12-0 after 10 minutes, but Die Brandwag hot back with a goal and a penalty goal to make the score 12-10.
Five minutes before half-time Daniël Pienaar scored again after good work by the forwards and then just before the break Louis Kruger was successful with a penalty goal.
In the second half Die Brandwag put on the pressure and Willie Nel was successful with two penalty goals to make the score 22-16.
Die Brandwag launched several good attacks but were kept at bay by good defence. The Tiere finished the match strongly with two tries in the last ten minutes.
For Die Brandwag there were outstanding performances by fullback Willie Nel, flyhalf Shaun Westcott and lock Hendrik Stefaan.
The outstanding players for Daniël Pienaar were scrumhalf Ignick Windvogel, who was named Man of the Match, locks Cedric Nel and Schalk Oelofse, eighthman Ryno de Bruyn and flyhalf Louis Kruger.
