Daunting Task for Wynberg

Wynberg Boys' High go off to Paarl to play Paarl Boys' High as winter has finally arrived in the Cape with its rain, cold with snow on the mountains and the break of beautiful, clear, windless days.

The grounds are sure to be heavy though the forecast is for  a clear, sunny day – the most exhilarating of weathers, more suitable to playing rugby than playing anything else.

This Season

Paarl Boys' High are riding the crest of an unbeaten wave, ranked top of the FNB Top 20. In their 13 matches scalps include Grey Bloem in Bloem, Monument, Outeniqua, Dr EG Jansen, Rondebosch, Boland Landbou and Bishops – all of them teams that have been on the Top 20.

Wynberg have not embarrassed themselves by any means, winning seven of their 11 matches. The four defeats are all against Top 20 sides – Rondebosch, Grey PE, Paul Roos and Bishops.

Paarl Boys' High have five players in the Western Province Craven Week side and another two in the Academy Week side. Wynberg has none.

The one Paarl lock was at the 2014 Craven Week in Middelburg – Ruben de Villiers. He and Salmaan Moerat may just be the tallest schoolboy pairing you have ever seen. Other schools have little success in line-out with the two of them in action.

The Boys' High players going to Craven Week are Ruben de Villiers, Tyreeq February, Wikus Groenewald, Leo Kruger, Salmaan Moerat, outstanding eighthman Khanya Ncusane, Manual Rass.

In addition, the Paarl Boys' High coach, Elmo Wolfaardt, is the new coach of the Western Province Craven Week side.

The Paarl Boys' High players to go to the Academy Week are Charl Serdyn and scrumhalf Bradley Thain.
