Dean de Winaar - Captain of Menlopark
Menlopark captain Dean Dewinaar has never lost against St. Albans and he does not intend doing so when they meet for their FNB Classic Clash this weekend.
Menlopark have had a good season so far, with their only loss coming against Ben Vorster, and after beating Eldoraigne comfortably last week Dewinaar says that his team is full of confidence.
The dynamic openside flank leads a team that is packed full of Matrics, and having been the captain of the Under-16A team two years ago he knows his players inside out.
According to Dewinnar the strength of the Menlopark team this year is their speedy backline who have the ability to run teams ragged if they are given the right platform.
"Our backline is definitely our strongpoint, they are pretty fast so we will try to get our wings in the game by spreading the ball wide whenever we get the chance," he said.
Speed will be the order of the day for the whole team against a St. Albans team that Dewinaar says rely on their physicality to dictate terms.
"St. Albans are always a good challenge for us, they have a pretty big forward pack and some quick backs so defence will be important and we will try and use our mobility to move them around," The Menlopark skipper explained.
Dewinaar does not intend to stop playing rugby once he leaves school and has decided that studying at Tuks next year is the best way to ensure that he reaches his potential.
