The first rugby team of Die Brandwag Hoërskool in Uitenhage remained unbeaten for the second successive year in the Mr Price/Die Brandwag Rugby week that took place in Uitenhage from 31 March – 3 April 2006 when they deservedly beat the powerful team of Strand High School on the final day of the tournament. Brandwag won 18-17 after leading 8-7 at half-time.

The match was played in hot conditions and was decided, mainly, between the two packs of forwards. Rock solid defence by both teams was a feature of the match with Die Brandwag players, especially, putting their bodies on the line in the second half to stop the continuous Strand attacks. Star performers on Die Brandwag was no. 8, André Barnard, flank forward, Stéfan Pietersen and hard-tackling outside centre, Albert Trytsman.

Despatch High School won their first match of the tournament earlier in the day when they beat Weston Senior Secondary School from Saldanha 40-0 after leading 12-0 at half-time.

HTS Daniël Pienaar, the other local team in the tournament, played to a 24 all draw against Hoërskool Middelburg (Mpumalanga) after trailing 18-5 at half-time. The team of Daniël Pienaar took control of the match after half-time with the wind in their backs and could have won if they took their opportunities. A star performer for Hoërskool Middelburg was their flyhalf, Dandré Gerber, son of the former Springbok great, Danie Gerber.

Nico Malan High School who took part in the tournament for the first time won the final match of the tournament when they beat Hentie Cilliers High School from Virginia in the Free State 24-0.

The match of the tournament without a shadow of a doubt was the main match on the second day of the match when Die Brandwag in an excellent display of schools rugby beat Despatch High School 40-9 after leading 12-9 at the interval.
