Die Burger finalists
None from Western Province
The six semi-finals for the new competition for schools organised by Die Burger were played on Saturday, producing the finalists in the Bog Schools, Medium Schools and Small Schools categories.
At Newlands, when Western Province play, the announcer with the golden voice, Eben Niemand encourages people to read Die Burger en gesels saam. Not one team from Western Province made the final. Strand came closest but were beaten by Drostdy of Worcester. The three Boland schools emulated their Currie Cup team and beat the three Western Province schools.
The only school from Eastern Provuince, which had such a good side at Craven Week, is Itembelihle.

The three matches between Boland and Western Province sides were played in windy Worcester on Saturday.
The matches in between Eastern :Province and South Western Districts sides were played at the windy Adcock Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Windy? Gale force at least!
Strand had first use of the wind but Drostdy defended to leave Strand with a small 15-12 lead at half-time. With the wind in the second half and with their pack in the ascendant Drostdy pressed their advantages him for the victory, scoring three tries to two.

The final score may well flatter Daniël Pienaar somewhat as their second try came deep in injury time.
The foundation for the Outeniqua victory was laid by their massive pack of forwards. Loosehead Beyers Bekker got their first try and fullback Wilton Pietersen their second but they could well have had more.
Daniël Pienaar scored a try through an intercept and then late a second try after a succession of penalties in their favour.

Punt of Mossel Bay were much too fast for Despatch, scoring five tries in all, three by wing Nevin Farmer. The victory in fact started in their pack which was much too good for Despatch.

Worcester Gim's cohesion and sense of adventure were too good for Jan van Riebeeck of Cape Town as they won by four tries to two. The winners' main resistance came from the Jan van Riebeeck pack.

The match in Port Elizabeth between Itembelihle and George High was really tough and the result was in doubt throughout as the sides scored two tries each. Only a penalty goal by Ntloko Makhomfane made the winning difference.

Augsburg of Clanwilliam were too strong for Parow of Cape Town. They were bigger and stronger in the backs as well as the forwards. They were never in danger of losing after gaining an early lead.
