Daniël Pienaar win play-off
The 12 teams for the semi-finals of Die Burger's new schools competition have now been finalised.
The competition is to run in Die Burger's main readership areas – the four provinces Eastern Province, South Western Districts, Boland and Western Province. It replaces the Media24 competition which stopped after three years.
In the Eastern Province there were play-offs to decide the representatives in all three categories and there was a play-off in the Boland in the Small Schools category.
Daniël Pienaar of Uitenhage beat Framesby of Port Elizabeth 19-13 to become Eastern Province's Big Schools representative in Die Burger's new competition for schools.
As expected Daniël Pienaar, ranked 9th on the FNB Top 20, controlled the match but failed to finish on occasions. Framesby, the home side, defended and spoilt well.

In the semi-final, Daniël Pienaar play against Outeniqua of George in Port Elizabeth.
In the play-off for Eastern Province's Medium Schools representative, Despatch beat Ndzondelelo High and now play against Punt of Mossel Bay in the semi-final.
Itembelihle beat Bertram 17-3 to earn the right to play George High in the semi-final.
In the Boland Augsburg Landbougimnasium beat a weakened Bredasdorp side 19-13 to qualify.
In Western Province there was difficulty in getting schools to represent the province. Paarl Gim, Paul Roos, Paarl Boys' High, Boland Landbou and Bishops declined to take part. Strand will now be their Big Schools representative and play against Drostdy.
Jan van Riebeeck are the Medium Schools representative and play Worcester Gim.
Parow are the Small Schools representative and play Augsburg.
