Double blow for SA Schools

SQUAD UPDATE: Two players in the SA Schools side for this month’s international tournament have had to withdraw because of injuries and they have been replaced.

the unfortunate players are Pumas prop Banele Mthenjane of Hoërskool Nelspruit, who played SA Schools in 20127, and the Boland flyhalf, Lionel April of Hermanus high, who had a brilliant Craven Week.

The fortunate replacements are Kwa-Zulu Natal’s Thabiso Mdletshe of Glenwood and centre Lwandile Menze of DHS.

Glenwood how has three players in the squad, DHS two. The other Glenwood players are lock Lunga Ncube and Rynhardt Jonker who players anywhere from flyhalf to fullback.

Coach Sean Erasmus said: “It’s always tough to lose players before a ball has even been kicked, but unfortunately these things happen and we feel for Banele and Lionel. The other DHS player is eighthman Celimpilo Gumede who captained his school and Kwa-Zulu Natal’s Craven Week side and played for SA Schools in 2017.

“At the same time, this provides a wonderful opportunity for Thabiso and Lwandile, and I’ve been impressed with their zeal and positive attitude.”
