Driehoek seek second Dr Malan win

Driehoek will look to make it two in a row when they host Dr Malan in what should be an entertaining FNB Classic Clash in Meyerton on Saturday.

Driehoek have managed just three wins in seven matches this season but they will head into the weekend’s league opener brimming with confidence after downing Hoogenhout 37-31 in the NWU-Pukke Final last weekend.

Driehoek coaches Hein Knoetze and Ricardo Erasmus stressed the importance of getting their league campaign off to a winning start.

“It’s vital that we establish a winning culture in the team. We are expecting a hard, physical encounter this weekend and the team who make the most of the opportunities they create are likely going to come out on top,” said Knoetze.

Erasmus echoed Knoetze’s sentiments and added that discipline will be all important as Driehoek look to emulate last year’s win over Dr Malan.

“Ball-retention is a facet of our game that we want to improve on this weekend and it will be crucial that we turn our opportunities into points,” said Erasmus.

Teams:

Driehoek: 15 Willie van Niekerk, 14 Juan Nieuwenhuizen, 13 Andries Basson, 12 LC Uys (captain), 11 Michael van Wyk, 9 Renier Slippers, 8 Phillip Terblanche, 7 Shaun Swart, 6 Chawn Douglas Cloete, 5 Renaldo Jansen, 4 Damion Smith, 3 Jason Jackson, 2 Lehan Badenhorst, 1 JP Potgieter.

Replacements: 16 Jacques Pieters, 17 Charl Bezuidenhout, 18 Jacques Camacho, 19 Marc Samons, 20 Pieter Fourie, 21 Warren O’Reilly, 22 Werner Blenkers, 22 Juandre Pietersen.
