Driehoek surge past Dr Malan

Driehoek scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to come from behind and beat Dr Malan 28-10 in their FNB Classic Clash on Saturday.

The visiting Dr Malan team played with the wind at their backs in the first half, and established a narrow 10-8 lead at the half-time break, but let things slip in the second half as a yellow card either side of half-time derailed their challenge.

Dr Malan inside centre Richard-Dean van Deventer scored his team's only try, which was converted by flyhalf Desmond Koen, and Driehoek responded with a try from their centre Andries Basson to keep them in touch.

The visitors lost both their scrumhalf and flyhalf to yellow cards either side of half-time, and when Koen had to leave the field with an injury soon afterwards the writing was on the wall.

Driehoek turned up the pressure after the break and proceeded to run the ball at the 13-man Dr Malan outfit, racking up two further tries from scrumhalf Renier Slippers and flyhalf Henlo Kayser.

Wing Juan Nieuwenhuizen added three penalties to seal an ultimately comfortable victory for the home side, with Dr Malan running out of puff in the second half.
