Driehoek too strong for Dr Malan

Driehoek continued their FNB Classic Clash dominance over Dr Malan with a 27-14 victory in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday.

Both teams had a good build-up the week before and on the day a good crowd of about 5000 spectators and players watched the main match.

The cheerleaders of both schools took part in the build-up before the game, the teams was introduced by the captains to the VIP’s and everybody sang the national anthem with Joe Gricius. This was very special, and layed the platform for a good match.

The match started at a fast tempo, with neither side willing to give an inch to the other.

Driehoek was first to score with two penalties by scrumhalf Heino Keyser. From good play between forwards and backs, Driehoek’s flyhalf Hugo Terblanche made a good break and scored a try which was converted by Keyser.

Dr. Malan then came back into the game with a try scored by their scrumhalf, who converted his own try.

Driehoek played some nice running rugby and it lead to a try by fullback Shawn Schoen just next to the uprights. eyser converted this try as well to give Driehoek a 20-7 lead at the break.

In the second half Dr Malan started with new inspiration and played good rugby throughout the half. They were first to score after playing with their big forwards. The prop scored after about five minutes in the second half, and the scrumhalf converted.

This brought more passion into Dr.Malan’s style of play. They attacked time after time, but Driehoek defended well to keep them from the tryline.

After a phase of play the Driehoek flyhalf Terblanche got the ball and break from his own 22 metre line through the defence, up the middle and offloaded to centre Edwin Fourie  who pass the ball to wing Henru Botha who dived over in the corner for a fantastic try. Terblanche converted the try which sealed a 27–14 victory.
