Durbies' big win over Bellville Lions
Match Report
After their victory over Bishops everybody expected Bellville to beat Durbanville with ease. Bellville shattered the expectations and astonished all by losing 23-12 against a determined Durbanville side.
Within the first minutes, Durbanville right wing, Jano Louw, scored their first try. Bellville wasted a few opportunities to score and Durbanville took advantage of this, and fullback Johandre Lazenby kicked a drop goal and extended the lead to 8-0. Before the end of the first half, Durbanville fullback added a penalty goal putting in the lead 11-0 at the break.
During the second half everybody expected a huge comeback from the Bellville side. They attacked fiercely which resulted in a interception try from Durbanville's No.8, Jaco van der Walt. The try was converted by fullback, Lazenby which left them with a leading score of 18-0. Bellville immediately replied with a try by right wing, Warren Hendricks, putting Bellville on the board with the score on 18-5.
Minutes later Durbanville replied with another try by Hanre Laubscher (lock forward) securing the game in Durbanville's favor.
After a few phases, Bellville replied with a try by scrumhalf, Mario Stoop, which was converted by flyhalf, Deon Thiart. Bellville did most of the attacking while Durbanville took advantage of Bellville's numerous mistakes.
This game will go down in Bellville history as the game of missed opportunities.
