Easter Festival Results, Day 1
There are several Easter rugby festivals where schools' 1st XVs are playing. As far as possible we are giving the results of the first day's play on Maundy Thursday.
It must be so exciting as schoolboys meet others, playing people they are not used to playing, often on grounds that are new to them. And along with all of this there are schoolmasters eagerly organising, giving of themselves with enthusiasm at a time when most of their colleagues are free to please themselves. But the rewards for those eager schoolmasters at tournaments there is the enormous satisfaction of giving young men a chance to develop themselves. And those who attend these festivals will remember them for the rest of their lives.
The biggest of the festivals is the Tony Stoops Rugby Festival down in the Cape, now in its eight year. There are 17 matches on the first day, i.e. 34 teams playing.
There are many notable matches amongst all of these results and some notable victories, amongst others, for Maritzburg College, Grey Bloem, Selborne, Rondebosch, Marlow, Diamantveld, Outeniqua, Nelspruit, Affies, Wynberg and SACS.
