Eastern Province deciders for Die Burger
Match Reports
On Saturday three matches were played to decide who would represent Eastern Province in Die Burger's new competition for Big, Medium and Small schools
On Saturday, the semi-finals will be played at Adcock Stadium in Port Elizabeth – Daniël Pienaar vs Outeniqua, Despatch vs Punt, and Itembelihle vs George High. The day will start with the match between the Small Schools, kicking off at 10.00.
Big Schools
Daniël Pienaar beat Framesby 19-10 In the big schools game Daniël Pienaar were made to work hard to beat an ever-improving Framesby side. Lapses of concentration and some poor defence by Framesby cost them the game in the end. Daniël Pienaar were well led by Dewald Potgieter and showed their class by scoring when they had to.
Medium Schools
In the medium schools clash, Despatch beat Ndzondelelo 9-5 but had to defend desperately as Ndzondelelo launched wave after wave of attacks in the dying moments of the game, but were unable to get through.
Despatch forwards dominated most of the game but faded towards the end.
Small Schools
Itembelihle beat Bertram 17-3 in an exciting and entertaining game. Bertram were bolstered by the inclusion of SA Under-19 and Under-21 scrumhalf Marlon Lewis, who proved to be a handful for the Itembelihle defence every time he touched the ball.
Itembelihle controlled the line-outs and scored two fantastic tries. The first one was scored by flank Sabelo Magaba from second phase when he crashed over. Fullback Andile Makhomfane converted and kicked a penalty.
For Bertram Bosman the flyhalf landed a penalty.
In the second half Itembelihle scored another try, once again from second phase, after the backline set it up ,with lock Gqongqo Mankeya diving over for Makhomfane to convert.
