Easy win for Queen's
Match Report
In a one-sided encounter played on the Rec on Saturday afternoon, the Queen’s College 1st XV trounced the visiting Stirling 1st XV, by 39-3 in a game played in bitterly cold conditions.
The “men in white” scored eight very entertaining tries and totally overwhelmed their opponents in all aspects of play.
Despite the good win however, one got the impression that Queen’s were not quite at their best and a number of opportunities went begging. The game was well summarised in the words of assistant coach Clinton Löest, who commented after the game, that “they were probably a yard or two off the pace”.
For the record, the four tries of the first half were scored by No.8 Mbuyisa Mnci, and centre Leandro Lee, who scored twice each and deservedly to, as both of these players have come on in leaps and bound in recent outings. The half-time score was 24 – 3 to Queen’s.
Second-half tries were scored by right wing Mayibuye Ndwandwa, flyhalf Lionel Cronje, and Lee who scored his third try. Cronje successfully converted four of the tries.
Queen’s will be well advised to guard against complacency, as they travel to Grahamstown tomorrow for their match against St Andrew’s, who have been a little unpredictable this season.
