Estehan Visagie - Captain of Transvalia
Hoerskool Transvalia captain Estehan Visagie will line up at No.8 for his team in Saturday's FNB Classic Clash against HTS Vereeniging.
It seems quite simple, doesn't it?
Well, not really.
You see, last year Visagie turned out in the flyhalf position for Transvalia – against the selfsame HTS Vereeniging – that after having also featured at centre at some point in his high school career.
"It's a bit of an adjustment," says Estehan rather matter-of-factly, when asked about his major positional switch in the last year, "it hasn't been too tough," he adds, before confirming that No.8 is indeed his favourite playing position.
It is not surprising that Estehan looks up to Bulls and Springbok star Francois Hougaard when it comes to a rugby-playing hero – given the former Paul Roos scholar's ability to play at scrumhalf and wing.
"I like him for his X-Factor," enthuses the Transvalia skipper.
So does that mean, he also the 'X-Factor' like his rugby hero?
"I'd obviously like to think so," he says rather shyly, "but obviously I don't have Hougaard's ability – nobody does!"
Just a little bit of 'X-Factor' from Visagie could go a long way towards securing a victory in Saturday's FNB Classic Clash, but the man himself is more concerned with his team's overall gameplan and its implementation.
"It's a Classic Clash… there's always extra pressure… it's all about us keeping our heads and implementing a gameplan that we all know well."
Having suffered three defeats in the early part of the 2012 season, Estehan and his team have since gone on a twelve-game winning streak – according to their captain, Transvalia "are playing like a team".
"That will help us," he says, "games like these, no matter what happens in the lead-up, are always 50-50 calls and tough to predict.
"It's very important that we hit the ground running from the start… otherwise we could be in trouble against our opponents."
