Faure Street Packed again
This time two other Paarl schools will be in action – Klein Nederburg and New Orleans.
They are both big, coed schools. Klein Nederburg, founded in the north of Paarl as a junior school in 1977, has now some 1 430 pupils. New Orleans was founded in 1984 in the east of Paarl and has some 1 550 pupils.
They have been playing each other since 1984 but as an Interschools clash since 1994. again this year it is an FNB Classic Clash.
The Interschools goes on all week and includes singing, praying and bragging. On the day itself at Faure Street Stadium a crowd of over 15 000 is expected and there will be pompom girls, introduction to dignitaries and the singing of the two schools' songs.
It is a bright, cheerful, colourful day on which the result of the 1st XV matters most.
Season so Far
There is not much between the two schools, certainly not enough to risk a bet on the result. But Klein Nederburg have the better overall results, perhaps because their opposition has been less demanding.
Klein Nederburg have played 12 and won nine; New Orleans have played 13 and won six.
