Fish win splendidly
In fact Dale could possibly have closed the gap a bit more had they kicked at goal but for the boys from King William's Town penalties were opportunities to score tries.
Selborne were without centre David Brits who was away with South African Schools and Dale were without Kwanda Dimaza who was in the South African Schools A team.
The start of the match was all Selborne as they attacked, running hither and thither. They opened the score with a penalty goal by scrumhalf Joshua Allderman. 3-0 after 5 minutes.
Courtney Winnaar, the Dame flyhalf, levelled the score four minutes later with a penalty goal.
The game seesawed till Selborne attacked down the left and the ball reached Thakga Boloko who was right up against the left touchline and standing still. But with dancing feet he came infield, beat four defenders 8-3 after 18 minutes and he got another soon afterwards with his Fred Astaire feet. From a scrum Allderman went on a long run and gave to James Bruce who gave to Boloko who danced past three Dalians to score his second try. 13-3 after 26 minutes.
Selborne's third try was delightful in its simplicity. From a scrum near the Dame 10-metre line in midfield, Selborne went right. Eighthman Darren Lemmer picked up at the base and passed to scrumhalf Allderman who passed to fullback Michael Botha. Botha cut clean through and when challenged gave to right wing James Bruce who scored the try. 18-3 after 33 minutes. In the two minutes left in the half Selborne scored again when, on the half-way line, flank Heinrich Nieuwenhuizen burst up the middle of the field and just inside the Dale 22 gave to energetic centre Sango Xamlashe who raced over for a try at the posts. This time Allderman converted.
At half-time Selborne led 25-3.
Selborne extended that lead early in the second half when Allderman went blind for a tackle and gave to Botha who forged ahead and the passed inside to Allderman who scored the try and converted it. 32-3 after 37 minutes.
From the kick-off gallant Dale attacked. Twice Selborne were penalised in an easily kickable position and the second time big Siyanda Am powered his way over for a try. 32-8 after 40 minutes.
Back came Selborne Xamlashe broke clean through on a long run before giving to his centre mate Tiaan Coetzer who scored and converted. 39-8 but still Dale did not give up, not even when Selborne were held up over their line and had a five-metre scrum.. Selborne knocked on and Dale managed to keep the ball heading downfield well into Selborne territory. Selborne were penalised and Dale tapped for a try by substitute Malwande Zamo. 39-13 after 49 minutes.
Selborne were close to scoring again when, after several phases, Allderman went blind but his pass was adjudge forward.
Then came a brilliant try.
Dale had worked their way upfield but knocked on about 10 metres from the Selborne line. to Daniel Froneman who gave to Xamlashe who gave to Boloko. The wing sped downfield, beating one and passing infield to Xamlashe who got an excellent pass infield to Bruce who have further infield to Coetzer who race over 30 metres to score, the last score of the match.
This victory was Selborne's 100th in matches between the two sides.
