FNB Top 20 - 18 April

In come Gimmies, Glenwood and Boland Landbou

Since our initial FNB Top 20 for 2006, there have been holidays in many parts of South Africa, but during those holidays there were many tournaments to give top schools a chance to show their worth.

As a result we need to make changes.

Those changes include the introduction of Paarl Gim, Glenwood and Boland Landbou into the FNB Top 20. They had played little before the Easter Weekend. Boland Landbou had been playing but against sides in England on their tour. They barely had time to grab a change of clothing before heading for the Saints' Festival. They started slowly but soon gathered momentum.

Some sides will find that they have dropped places although they did not play. It was not a matter of punishing them for not playing but rather of rewarding sides that did play well – Paul Roos and Waterkloof for instance.

There are many good sides in South Africa and so we have a large pool of teams bubbling just under the FNB Top 20. One of them, Westville, beat Pretoria Boys' High. Another, Florida, beat Westville.

KES who are not on the FNB Top 20 ran Grey PE desperately close and Grey are high on the FNB Top 20.

A couple of schools had a tough time at the Easter Festivals and have dropped out. Those Festivals are exacting, especially for those who went to Grey in Port Elizabeth and then hastened up to Gauteng for the next round of three matches in five days.

We are happy for people to press the claims of their sides. Last week we had just one such promotion.
