FNB Top 20 - 3 May 2011

Upheavals continue in the wake of Wildeklawer and its surprisingly big scores. It shows again how we could come close to accurate and even absolute if we had everybody playing everybody else.

What the FNB Top 20 tells us loudly this time is that the power in South African schools rugby has gone north.

And, surprise, we have a change at the top. Grey College won their recent matches but Affies won them more convincingly and so we have moved Affies into the top spot.

There are two new teams this week – Diamantveld with big wins over Framesby and Boland Landbou and Westville who beat Kearsney in an FNB Classic Clash.

Some teams improved their position because teams above them had a tough time and so they edged up without any achievement of their own.

FNB Top 20 – 3 May 2011:

1. Affies
2. Grey College of Bloemfontein
3. Selborne
4. Waterkloof
5. Monument
6. Maritzburg College
7. Paarl Boys’ High
8. Noord-Kaap
9. Bishops
10. Grey High of Port Elizabeth
11. Dale
12. KES
13. Kearsney
14. Diamantveld
15. Paarl Gim
16. Glenwood
17. Marais Viljoen
18. Paul Roos
19. Westville

If you look at the calibre of the teams below this group then you realise the strength of schools rugby in South Africa – Daniël Pienaar, Drostdy, Ermelo, Florida, Framesby, HTS Middelburg, Kemptonpark, Klerksdorp, Menlopark, Oakdale, Outeniqua, St Andrew’s and Tygerberg.
