FNB Top 20 for 12 May 2009

It may not be tough at the top but it’s certainly tough near the top when you have to take on the top side in the FNB Top 20.

Paarl Boys’ High experienced that in Bloemfontein this last Saturday. It will be interesting to see how Affies fare this weekend.

Again we try to reward schools that play, particularly those who play strong schools.

It is heartening to see the enthusiasm our schools rugby generates. There are metres of comment on several sites. That is great.

Rugby at school does not exist as an entity of its own as club rugby does, not to mention rugby above that. Rugby at schools is part of an educational package. Part of that education is to train boys to act properly under pressure, realising that they play opponents, not enemy, and that opponents have the same rights – to play the game, enjoy the game, and even win the game.

Some of the comments written on the site lack that respect that schools try to inculcate. Enthusiasm is good; insult is not.

That said, here is a list to shake controversy. There is movement up and down. Amongst the ups are Paul Roos, KES, Grey Glenwood, who arrived from Japan on Friday and beat Kearsney the next day, Selborne, Die Brandwag, Noord-Kaap and Westville.

Upington comes onto the bench.
