Framesby down Nico Malan

In a hard FNB Classic Clash in windy Humansdorp, Framesby of Port Elizabeth beat hoists Nico Malan 39-25 on Saturday.

At half -time Framesby led 22-18.

The foundation for the Framesby victory was laid by the tight forwards who were bale to put Nico Malan under stern pressure.

Nico Malan's answer was to use the speed of the back, of whom the captain Selvyn Davids was again outstanding, a remarkable scorer of points. In this match he scored 20 of his side's points and, playing at outside centre this time, he was a constant threat to Framesby. He and his fellow centre Ruben Botha were able to break the line seemingly at will but Framesby scrambled well on defence.

His opposing captain, flyhalf Ernst Stapelberg, who has had an outstanding season, also showed his class in this top-level match,

The visitors ran in three tries in the first 20 minutes but suffered badly from yellow fever, one yellow card in the first half and two late in the second which left 13 men to hold their line against Nico Malan and ultimately the broadsword of the Framesby pack triumphed over the rapier of the Nico Malan backs. Bart le Roux who scored two tries is a tighthead prop.
