Gim to strong for SACS
Match Report
The sheer power of Paarl Gim overcame a gallant SACS 1st XV, 47-12, in Newlands on Saturday morning.
The first half was evenly contested and SACS gave as good as they got for most of it. The Gim forwards did drive exceptionally well though, especially from the line-outs, with their all Craven Week front row combining to good effect. It was from just such a drive that their skipper and loosehead prop Jean Rossouw scored the opening try.
SACS came back strongly though and deservedly scored after a period of sustained pressure. Centre Liam Slatem grubbering through for wing Rodney Mthi to score. The scores were tied up at 7-all just before the half, but that is when Gim struck the killer blow.
Tries scored immediately either side of the interval by center Johann Sadie and flyhalf Andre Kemp, all but ending the came as a contest. SACS’s first time tackling, especially amongst the forwards was poor. This allow the Gim locks to join their props and begin running hard at the SACS de fence. This in turn gave their inside backs the space and time to execute their moves, which they did to good effect.
Gim ran in four more tries in the second half to a solitary effort by SACS. The SACS try was once scored by left-wing and top try-scorer Dean Holland, after a good backline move.
SACS will need to lift themselves quickly from this disappointing defeat as they host rivals Wynberg Boys' High on Thursday afternoon. An encounter that sees the two oldest schools in the country do battle!
