Glenwood boy's great award
Wandi Mazibuko, a grade 12 pupil at Glenwood High School in Durban, has received the chance of a lifetime – a bursary to the Sharks Academy worth R100 000.
He was one of four players to receive the bursary at the end of the Kearsney Easter Festival. The others were Rikus Botha of Paarl Gim, Sarel Roux of Boland Landbou and Matt Reece-Edwards of Kearsney College.
Wandi has always been an exceptional rugby player, always a loose forward. He has been playing A team rugby since joining Glenwood High as a boarder in Grade 8 and has captained the Under-15 and Under-16A sides. He was also captain for the KwaZulu Natal team at the Grant Khomo Week. He is a school prefect.
This year he took part in the NWU Pukke Skouspel. At the end of the tournament a team was chosen with Wandi on the flank.
Apart from the great rugby opportunity the Sharks Academy offers the chance of further education, including degree and diploma courses.
Several international players have gone through the Academy – Frans Steyn, Lwazi Mvovo, JP Pietersen, Waylon Murray, Clyde Rathbone, Brad Barrett, Patrick Lambie, Ryan Kankowski, Marcell Coetzee, Jacques Potgieter, Tim Dulani, Keegan Daniel, Alistair Hargreaves, Patric Cilliers and Tendai Mtawarira.
