Glenwood enjoy Top Schools
The new Durban Schools 20 minute a side KwaZulu Natal Top Schools Rugby Festival was a great experience and truly a hit for everyone.
That young players got an opportunity to play on the same field as their heroes was just priceless.
Glenwood played College in the main game of the evening, kicking off at 19.50. The Glenwood band was present as always and so was a very loud Gibson House that didn't stop making a noise for the duration of the game!
The Green Machine started well with Derwent Stopforth crossing in the opening minute but the referee was on the wrong side of the grounding and the try was disallowed. Sphamandla Ngcobo crossed the line two minutes later on the wing after some great interplay. With the games only 20 minutes a half the Glenwood team gave the ball lots of air and the handling led to the second try of the evening by captain Rupert Kay which Kyle Gerard this time managed to slot to take the score to 12-0. The score remained the same in the first half with Glenwood making way too many handling errors.
Debutant Michael Teichman crossed for the only try in the second half after the backs broke out from their own 22m line, great play and a well deserved try by Teichman which Kyle Gerhard converted to end the game at 19-0 in the favour of Glenwood.
Even though College had some of their starting line up players in the stands it was still a physical game that both sides enjoyed.
The team is growing nicely and it was great to see all the boys enjoy the evening!
A big thank you to all involved in such a great event.
