Glenwood get a clean sweep
Glenwood travelled across to DHS on Saturday and won all 12 matches against their traditional Durban rivals.
The first team game started off slowly as teams traded penalties in the opening first 15 minutes. Glenwood giving away five penalties in a short period allowing DHS to put some points on the board.
Glenwood replied with two penalties by Kyle Gerhard in front of the poles to lead 6-3. Glenwood captain Wandi Mazibuko scored the first try after sprinting half the length off the field, Gerhard converted and Glenwood extended the lead to 13-3.
DHS replied with a grubber through the Glenwood backs that seemed to bounce outside the field and bounce back in field, Glenwood left the ball and DHS left winger dived on it and the try was awarded, the conversion was missed, 13-8.
Glenwood replied strongly scoring two tries before half time; No 8 Jaco Coetzee scoring both of them and Kyle Gerhard converting them. DHS added a penalty on the stroke of half time moving the score to 27-11 in the favour of the Green Machine.
Glenwood played better rugby in the second half but still missed a lot of passes that should have gone to hand and ended in points.
DHS drew first blood after the half with a shot at goal to add three points. That would be the last penalty Glenwood conceded and also the last time DHS would score as the Green Machine clicked into gear.
No 8 Jaco Coetzee scored his hat-trick try and it was converted by Gerhard. Coetzee has been amazing this season and has grown into a great young player for the future.
Replacement prop Joe Potgieter soon made his presence felt as he dived over for the last two tries of the game. Gerhard converted one and missed one. Glenwood finishing strong and earning the title of "The Kings of the Berea" of 2013. Final score 46-14 to the Green Machine.
