Graaff-Reinet's Interschools 2015

The 2015 annual Interschools clash between the Union Schools and Laer and Hoër Volkskool will be remembered as one where sport and good sportsmanship emerged the winner. Spectators were entertained by the exceptional skill and ability of both schools, and the spirit in which the schools played the game.

Most of the junior sport was played on Friday. The 1st Junior Hockey teams played excellent hockey and delighted the crowd with their fine performances. UHS eventually edged Volkskool to win 2-0. Friday afternoon also saw the 3rd Team Rugby match, which Union clinched 13-5.

The weather co-operated on Saturday and once again we were blessed with a full day of tough matches.  The 1st Hockey match was a match to remember with both teams playing real aggressive and exciting hockey on the Union Astroturf. Union won this match 2-1. At the Botanics Sports Grounds, Union started off the day in style by winning the Under-11A and Under-13A matches. Volkskool then hit back by winning the Under-14A match, and one of the most entertaining matches of the day, the Under-16A match. The 2nd Tteam match was dominated by Union and they managed to win that match 36-0.

All was set for the final match of the day. The 1st XV Rugby match was one of mixed emotions. First Volkskool was on top, then Union and so it went on throughout the match. We congratulate the Volkskool 1st Team on their fine victory winning the match 15-14. They played some exceptional rugby.

Interschools is truly alive and well and we look forward to many more encounters in the future. It’s a week where the entire Graaff-Reinet community benefits. Graaff-Reinet is indeed privileged to have two wonderful schools that compete in this manner.
