Graeme College Rugby Day results

Graeme College of Grahamstown held its 15th Rugby Day on Saturday, St Patrick’s Day, again a grand occasion.

After the tournament the Graeme headmaster, Peter Reed, a provincial scrumhalf in his playing days, said: “My compliments go to the visitors who entered the spirit of the day and gave very good rugby performances. We look forward to hosting another eventful rugby day in 2013.”

Brendan Grant, Graeme’s master in charge of rugby, said: “The day was another outstanding success.

“Not even the rain and cold weather could put a dampener on proceedings. Approximately 7 000 spectators passed through the gates on the day.

“Teams to really impress were Dale College, Queen’s College and Grey High School, while the final match of the day produced a tight encounter with Framesby defeating St Andrew’s 16-6.”

Steven Klue, the referee for two of the matches, added: “The schools who played rugby today were all of a high standard. The field restricted play because of the rain and conditions on the field and those schools who had strong forward packs dominated their games.”
