Graeme gladly host Port Rex

Port Rex probably found the going a little tough on the day, but Graeme were delighted to build on the good relationship between the two schools.

The hockey kicked off the fixture on Friday night, with Port Rex winning the Under-14A game 1-0.

Graeme controlled most of the rugby fixtures, but the 1st XV game definitely could not be referred to as a great spectators' match. Graeme, though, did what they needed to do, and when they did find some rhythm, their backline looked exciting.

The Graeme College first XV faced Port Rex first XV in Grahamstown on Saturday the May 13. Graeme College were looking to fight back after their disappointing result against St Andrew's College the previous Saturday and they did just that with a convincing 42-5 win.

Graeme managed to score four unconverted tries in the first half to lead 20-0 at half-time. Graeme were dominating possession and with all that ball it was inevitable that they would cross the try-line on a number of occasions. Wing OJ Basson crossed for a try and the entire front row – Athi Nkewana, Wonga Wakashe and Mijean Annandale also managed to score tries.

The second half continued in much the same fashion as wing Matthew Robertson crossed over for a try within the first two minutes of the half. Port Rex then showed some good attacking skills to score a try of their own which made the score 25-5 at that point.

Graeme scored a further three tries through Sivu Ngqiyaza, Cameron Amos and Soso Masakane. Sivu Ngqiyaza converted one of the tries.

Graeme will be satisfied with the performance and they will be looking forward to taking on an in-form Grey side this coming Wednesday in Port Elizabeth in a mid-week fixture because of the provincial trials to be played on Saturday.
The Graeme Junior School had a big derby against St Andrew's Prep, which started off with the Under-9 fixture. Graeme won five of the eight matches including an impressive 31-19 win in the Under-13A game.
