Graeme Win at Muir

The Graeme and Muir derby is always a keenly contested fixture, with a similar type of school meeting for the fixture. There were two hockey matches played on the Friday, with Graeme winning the 1st XI match 5-0. On the Saturday, Graeme sent more than 250 boys to Uitenhage to play in the 17 rugby matches.

The rugby was of good quality throughout the day with a number of close encounters; however Graeme did have the upper hand winning 12 and drawing 1 of the 17 matches.

Special mention was made about the Under-11A season which ended unbeaten. They scored 453 points this season and conceded only 27. But it is the way they have played the game and carried themselves as young sportsmen, which has been even more pleasing. Process ahead of result! Iviwe Mshubeki scored an incredible 25 tries during the course of the season.

Interestingly the Graeme Under-9A side also finished their season unbeaten.

The Graeme College 1st XV also came out on top winning 42-22 in an eagerly anticipated encounter. The opening minutes of the encounter were tightly contested with neither team giving much away. Although the Muir side had the majority of the territory, it was Graeme who scored a converted try first. Muir replied with a penalty after a period of sustained pressure on the Graeme try-line. Graeme did well to soak up the pressure in the early exchanges and then started to play some good attacking rugby which culminated in another two tries before half-time, to lead 17-3 at the break.
