Grant Khomo 2018: Four remain unbeaten
By the end of the second day of the Under-16 Grant Khomo Week, there were four unbeaten sides – Blue Bulls, Eastern Province, Free State and Valke.
There was great interest in the match between Blue Bulls and Border after Border’s defeat of Western Province on Day 1. It was a suitably intense encounter but the Bulls, with four tries to two, were worthy winners. Only two players scored the Blue Bulls’ four tries – Bjorn van Wyk and Lincoln Adams, a wing and an outside centre. Franco Kotze converted all four tries.
Free State enjoyed their second win as they came back from 17-10 down against Boland to win a hefty 52-22, seven tries to three.
The Valke also had to battle for their win. They and the Griffons each scored four tries but 11 points from the boot of flyhalf Kyle Benade proved a winner.
By half-time, Eastern Province led 17-0. The Pumas of Mpumalanga fought back, but Eastern Province increased their lead and won well.
Namibia scored six converted try for their victory over Border Country District but their neighbours Zimbabwe had six tries against them for homeboys Griquas to secure a comfortable win.
Surprisingly defeated on Day, Western Province roared much louder than the Golden Lions, scoring five tries to two.
In a close encounter where the score was 5-all at half-time, South Western Districts got ahead of Kwa-Zulu Natal in the second half.
