Grey College travel to Henties
Grey College is on the road once again this weekend.
By normal standards the 160km trip north to the town Virginia in the Free State would be regarded as a long journey.
However, Grey College boys are accustomed to travelling the length and breadth of the country to meet opponents during their school rugby careers and will therefore probably deem this outing to be the equivalent of a short out-of-town drive.
Lying in wait to lock horns with them on Saturday is Hentie Cilliers.
Although Hentie Cilliers may not be the a very well-known rugby school outside of the Free State borders, it has to be noted that in 2011, they provided the Griffons with no fewer than eleven Craven Week players. In other words, they made up half the Griffons squad. There are quality players in this Northern Free State school’s rugby system, and Saturday will be the ideal opportunity to showcase this talent.
For Grey College, last weekend’s match against Duineveld of Upington was played in sweltering heat and ended in a 17-6 win. It may not have gone entirely according to plan but provided the team with a good competitive start to their 2012 campaign.
This weekend they will no doubt be a looking to put in a far more convincing performance. And with three very challenging Kearsney Easter Festival games now just around the corner, this will also be their last 70 minutes of live game time for fine-tuning before they head to KwaZulu-Natal.
