Grey PE celebrates 150 years with rugby

In association with FNB

Grey High Schools turns 150 this year and, like Grey Bloem last year, has rugby as a part of its celebrations at the beginning of April. Many of the schools are old friends – as happens at birthday parties. FNB are coming to the party as well.

Several of the schools taking part ended in the FNB Top 20 at the end of last year – Affies (3rd), Grey itself (4th), Grey Bloem (5th), Paul Roos (7th), Maritzburg College (12th), Queen's (13th), St Andrew's (16th), Bishops (19th) and Pretoria Boys High (20th). And Dale of King William's Town were not far behind either and Selborne are capable of beating anybody. DHS had a thinnish year last year though they played rugby of the most constructive kind and are a school with a great tradition. Itembelihle Comprehensive School is in New Brighton and coached by a great and enthusiastic rugby man, Theo Pieterse, who first set Solly Tyibilika along a rugby career. They have had some great victories in the past, including one over Daniël Pienaar.
