Grey vs Paul Roos in PE

Apart from the other activities, there will be 21 rugby matches, played by 42 teams. Admire the energy and generosity of the schoolmasters involved.

The encounters have often been thrilling, often close and always of top quality.

This year it is at Grey, not that home ground has been decisive it seems. In six matches at Grey, Paul Roos has won three, Grey two, with a draw. In six matches at Stellenbosch, the two schools have each won three.

The match will be live on TV and certainly worth watching.

Both sides are ranked on the Schools Top 20 – Paul Roos at fifth and Grey at 11th.

Paul Roos have had much the tougher fixture list up to now. Grey have not played a team ranked in the Top 20 while Paul Roos have played six teams on the Top 20, beating Drostdy, Helpmekaar, Nelspruit and Affies and losing to Paarl Gim and, somewhat surprisingly, Waterkloof.

Grey has four players in this year's side who played for Eastern Province at last year's Craven Week – centres Aya Matroos and Waqar Solaan, fullback Sihle Njezula and hooker Ruan Jonker. In addition, lock Gerik Rautenbach was at the Academy Week.

Paul Roos, on the other hand, has no players with such experience.
