Hilton freeze St Charles out
Hilton notched a comfortable 34-0 victory over St Charles in freezing conditions including hail on Saturday.
The weather conditions were wet, windy and bitterly cold. Hilton were the first to score when they showed good ambition in the conditions and moved the ball into open space for Patrick Bartlett to run in from 30 metres out.
Next captain Cameron Wright kicked a penalty to give Hilton a 10-0 lead halfway through the first half.
St Charles had a period of sustained pressure, however strong defence by Hilton and in particular Alaistar Rayner and Brad Dickerson kept St Charles out. The Hilton pack was gaining the ascendancy and after a good maul Damian Lello dived over for Hilton.
The Hilton forwards and backs then combined well to put Patrick Bartlett in for his second try. The teams went in to half time with Hilton 22- up.
The second half was fairly uneventful except for quick thinking by Cameron Wright which saw him take a quick penalty and dart in for a try under the poles which he duly converted and an error by St Charles that prop Andy Lee pounced on to score. The final score was 34-0 in favour of Hilton.
