Hilton hold out against DHS

Hilton received DHS on Saturday and beat them 26-15.
It was a warm day in the Midlands and the stage was set for a good hard game as both sides had achieved mixed results so far this year.
Hilton dominated the first quarter and scored a converted try as DHS struggled to get out of their half. From the kick off DHS were on attack but struggled to convert their pressure into points.
Soon after that DHS were on attack and after PJ Stroebel ran a beautiful angle off his centre partner Luzuko Vulindlu, good field position was set up and after the forwards recycled the ball well after some close to the fringes rucking the ball was moved wide to the right and once again PJ Stroebel changed his angle of attack and went over to score a well worked try. Ryan Matthysen was successful with the conversion to take the score to 7-all.
DHS dominated the latter part of the 1st half and after Thabani Sibiya gathered a kick just in the opposition half, he managed to sprint down the touchline after beating the 1st line of defense, and with shear power he managed to set up play close to the Hilton try line, after the eventually gave away a penalty close to their line after some desperate defense after DHS managed to launch attack after attack close to the Hilton try line. Ryan Matthysen was successful with the penalty to take DHS into the half time break with a 10-7 lead.
The second half was very even although Hilton had the territorial advantage, but it saw both teams prepared to throw the ball around and play some good running rugby that was appreciated by the large crowd of spectators.
DHS started off the 2nd half in style and Luzuko Vulindlu scored a great try after he grubbered the ball through after many phase that the forwards recycled the ball and set up the opportunity for him to score. The players showed great patience and just keep recycling the ball with good inter play between forwards and backs. Uncharacteristically Ryan Matthysen missed a relatively easy conversion by his standards that took the score to 15-7.
Hilton drew closer after DHS turned the ball over on their own 10m line. Hilton moved the ball to the back line and a cut back by their center found space in the DHS defense that had been solid thus far the center drew the defense and off loaded to the supporting player who scored close to the polls for a converted try to bring the score within one point.
From a 22m restart the ball was knocked on by Hilton and the referee played advantage and Ryan Matthysen picked up the loose ball but in his attempt to pass the ball he knocked it forward after no advantage was gained. Hilton managed to move the ball wide and scored another converted try to take the score to 21-15 with minutes remaining.
DHS went straight on to the attack and after a very clever grubber by Kyle Roodt, PJ Stroebel went to dive on the ball in Hilton in goal area but was pushed from behind and missed the ball. Unfortunately the referee was unsighted and an opportunity to score to put DHS ahead went a begging.
With two minutes on the clock DHS went on to the attack again, and a loose pass saw the Hilton left wing intercept to dash all hopes for DHS to win. The conversion was not successful and saw DHS lose by 26-15.
It certainly was there for the taking and with opportunities not taken and decisions not been made DHS tried hard to the end and played the game in true DHS spirit. The game was played in good spirit and was enjoyed by the spectators
