HTS wins Potch clash again
HTS Potchefstroom have beaten rivals Potchefstroom Boys' High 16-15 in a close and tense Classic Clash on Saturday. It is their second consecutive victory in this tie.
It was an exciting morning when players and coaches all arrived at Potch Boys High School for a day of extreme sports. The stands were packed with spectators from the first to last match. For the whole day the cheering of the crowd could be herd far and wide. It was time for the Classic Clash to start.
The Under-14 teams took to the field and started off the clashes. With big hits made and great tries scored it was the perfect start for a great day of rugby.
The Under-15, Under-16 and second teams battled it out with every match lifting the pressure for the first teams.
It was finally time for the big one. The players were introduced and rugby hungry players took the field straight after the teams were wished good luck.
It was almost as if the iconic trumpet and ‘o Le’ could be heard as the ball bounced off the boot as the kick-off was made. From the start you had the feeling that this game was going to be a close, hard hitting game with lots of suspense. The first points were had when HTS gave away a penalty and Potch Boys K Thabanchu was more than happy to slot it over and gain the advantage five minutes into the game.
Not long after Potch Boys pushed over the line for a tries but unfortunately for them they missed the conversion but still had an 8-0 advantage over HTS.
But the game was far from over and the HTS players were far from defeated. They answered back in the 25th minute with Moyakeng driving over the line to close the scoring margin. Inside centre K Motshabi brought the score even closer when he sent the ball over the posts for another two points. The score now 8-7 still in favour of Potch Boys. Motshabi again slotted the ball over after they were rewarded a penalty in the last movement of the first half, claiming the upper hand for the half.
After the coaches adjusted the strategies for the second half they took to the field of battle again. Five minutes into the second half HTS was awarded with another penalty and again Motshabi put it over again making it 8-10 for HTS. It was hit after hit and two more penalties came the way of HTS in the 12 and 29 minutes of the half and Motshabi with no surprise converted them to make the score 8-16.
The game got very intense when Potch Boys bashed over the line for a converted try. Tired players continue to impress with both teams not willing to lose an inch of field. The electric game came to an end well past the time when an error was forced by HTS.
The spectators rush the field to congratulate their victors, the HTS first team.
