The unbeaten teams are Kearsney, Kingswood, St Charles, St Andrew’s of Grahamstown, Eton 2nd XV and hosts Bishops.
The Eton 1st XV has taken two big defeats while their 2nd XV has won both of its matches. The Eton sides will not be playing on the third day, Wednesday, as they are off on their wanderings east.
The main match on Day 2, a perfect Cape winter's day, blue sky, no wind and comfortable warmth, between Hilton and Bishops, was a thriller. After Hilton scored first, the lead changed five times till Bishops led 28-18, but back came Hilton to get the score to 28-24. Then Bishops scored a thriller and it was 35-24, but Hilton attacked, fuelled by great determination, several penalties and a yellow card for Bishops, and eventually got over for a try which took the score to 35-31 with Bishops still running the ball. Bishops scored five tries to three but some excellent goal-kicking by Hilton kept the KwaZulu Natal side in the game.
