ISRF ends at Kingswood in close matches
The matches on Day 3 of the Independent Schools Rugby Festival started in the early Grahamstown morning.
None of matches on the day was a runaway victory.
A Kearsney try in the last minute snatches victory from St John’s of Johannesburg.
St Andrew’s of Bloemfontein led St Alban’s of Pretoria 12-7 at half time, but the Pretoria side scored to tie the scores at 12-all. ‘
The last scrum of the match was on the St Andrew’s 10-metre line. They won the scrum and attacked getting closer and closer. The siren sounded and St Andrew’s went over fop the try that won the match.
With seven minutes to go, Clifton led 14-12, but Kingswood were on attack. Clifton were penalised and Kingswood goaled. 15-14. For the remaining time, Clifton attacked but could not get the score which would win the match.
St Stithians suffered two late setback in their match with Eeze Fana Academy, a private sports development academy in Kwazakhele, Port Elizabeth. Fist Eeze Fana scored a converted try to take the lead at 22-19 and then they had a player redcarded, invoking the academy its first win of the tournament.
Hilton led Grahamstown’s St Andrew’s 12-10 at half-time. Then St Andrew’s scored to take the lead at 17-12, but with 9 minutes to go Hilton’s forwards ,mauled over for a try that was converted, to give Hilton a fought victory.
St David’s Marist scored first but two Michaelhouse tries gave the Kwa-Zulu Natal side a 14-5 lead at half-time. Two more tries in the second half made it 26-5 till St David’s scored. It was now 26-12 with the Inanda team on the attack, but an intercept gave Michaelhouse long-distance try. Right at the end St David’s attacking again, were rewarded with the last try of an energetic match.
