Jeppe go up to Houghton

When kikuyu grass came to the barren fields of Johannesburg, the schools were eager to change from soccer to rugby. Two of those who changed early were Jeppe High School for Boys and King Edward VII school, and then they started playing each other.

They have been at it for 84 years and are happy to keep on doing it. This week will be the second time this year that 22 teams from Jeppe will play 22 teams from KES. It’s wonderful.

Season so Far

This year, unlike last year, KES have been doing better than Jeppe. In fact in their first meeting this year KES won 49-31.

KES are ranked 18th on the Schools Top 20; Jeppe are unranked.

KES have played 10 matches this year, Jeppe nine matches, each school against three Top 20 teams.

KES have won eight, lost one and drawn one.
Jeppe have won five and lost four.
