Kearsney Festival, Day 1 Wrap
After 100mm of rain earlier in the week, hot sunshine quickly dried the field for a spectacular and exciting first day at the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival in Botha’s Hill.
Spectators were treated to some high scoring games, with the clash between Hoerskool Outeniqua from George and Dr EG Jansen from Brakpan proving to be a thrilling game of contrasting styles of rugby.
Kearsney College was the only team from host province KZN to win their fixture, having beaten Port Elizabeth’s Hoerskool Framesby in the opening game of the day. Glenwood lost to Paul Roos from Stellenbosch and Westville Boys’ High was convincingly beaten by Paarl Gimnasium.
Saturday promises some high intensity clashes. The first game of the day is between Nico Malan and Boland Landbou, starting at 9.30am, followed by Outeniqua and Westville. With Kearsney and Paarl Gymnasium having won their first games, both teams will be keen to remain unbeaten. Glenwood and Selborne kick off at 1.15pm, followed by afternoon games between EG Jansen and Paul Roos, then Grey College face Framesby in the final match of the day.
There is a gate entry of R50 per vehicle, which includes a glossy brochure. Numerous food outlets are available, as well as a refreshment marquee. Weather permitting, after the final game on Saturday, there will be a sky diving demonstration courtesy of Nashua.
