Kearsney host Michaelhouse

It's Anglicans vs Methodists in Grahamstown and also at Botha's Hill on Saturday when Kearsney play host to Michaelhouse in what could be really good contests.

The match between the two in 2013 when Kearsney won a massive 38-5 was also at Botha's Hill. At Kearsney's request Michaelhouse agreed to the Botha's Hill venue because Kearsney wanted to celebrate 14 June as their Reunion Day.

Being Reunion Day should add greater zest to Kearney, wanting their community to see how good they are  while Michaelhouse may feel small in the midst of all the Kearsney-ness.

This Season

Kearsney have had 14 matches this season, winning 10 of them.  They played against four sides ranked in the FNB Top 20 and lost them all – to Grey PE, HTS Middelburg, Dr EG Jansen and Maritzburg College. They are themselves not in the Top 20.

Nor are Michaelhouse, though they are close. They have played nine matches, winning six. They lost to Glenwood and Maritzburg College and, strangely, also to Graeme College of Grahamstown.

Results against Common Opponents:

Hilton: Kearsney won 31-7; Michaelhouse won 20-13

Maritzburg College: Kearsney lost 29-17; Michaelhouse lost 25-24

Northwood: Kearsney won 19-11; Michaelhouse won 27-11

Westville: Kearsney won 13-12; Michaelhouse  won 34-32

All that those results suggest is that it is likely to be close with perhaps an advantage to Kearsney on home ground and in an emotional occasion.

Representative Players

Both teams have players inn the two Under-18 sides for Craven Week and the Academy Week

Kearsney

Craven Week: Tristan Tedder, James Hall, Tristan Dixon

Academy Week: Tijde Visser

Michaelhouse

Craven Week: Bradley Roberts

Academy Week: Bader Pretorius, Thomas Walker, Gregory Jackson, Michael Tattam

It is interesting that Kearsney have both Craven Week halves and Michaelhouse both Academy Week halves. This could be interesting head-to-heads.
