Kearsney Lose to Glenwood
Although the 1st XV game was not the result the thousands of Kearsney College Old Boys who had gathered from around the world would have wanted on their Founders Weekend, it was an enjoyable spectacle to watch the One-Strip take up the challenge against Glenwood, arguably the top KZN school side.
After a strong start with Kearsney’s Connor de Bruyn scoring first through a rehearsed move and the team applying pressure to earn a few penalty opportunities, Glenwood gradually picked up a gear, and began to dominate proceedings after the first quarter.
Despite the home side’s valiant efforts, the effects of a brave defensive effort saw their team being depleted by injuries, with six players needing to be replaced.
Glenwood ultimately proved too strong, running away with things in the second half, despite their hosts’ valiant efforts, for a final score-line of 15-52.
Provincial Selections
Kearsney’s Connor de Bruyn, Massimo Fierro and Derick Marshall have been selected to the KZN Under-18 Craven Week team and 1st XV captain Ox Carmody to the Under-18 Academy Week team.
