Klofies vs Garsies

It's show time!  Waterkloof and Garsfontein kick’s off on Saturday at Garsfontein, and fierce rugby is a guarantee!

Waterkloof always looks forward to home town derbies against neighbouring schools and this match is no exception. Klofies has a proud rugby tradition, and because of that Waterkloof is a team to be reckoned with.

Waterkloof is an extremely competitive school and has been playing against Garsfontein the past five years, with Klofies the victor every time! The Klofie rugby side is talented and will play open attractive rugby. Waterkloof team this year prides themselves as a team that has been playing together since Grade 8. With a few Grade 11s (playing together as Grade 8s) included in the team to strengthen the core of the Klofie side.

According to Messrs Lindeque, Coetzer and Botha, coaches at Waterkloof: “Our team is going to turn up and enjoy the match and play with Klofie guts. We have players of character and that will already be an asset to the team. The group of players impressed us with their positive thinking, dedication and work ethic.”

From Waterkloof

Garsies have been having the better season so far. They are ranked fifth on the FNB Top 20 while Waterkloof are 11th. Mind you, in terms of South Africa's many schools, the difference is not great.

Garsfontein have lost just once this year – to Nelspruit (27-22). Waterkloof also played Nelspruit and beat them 22-17 but Klofies have lost their last three matches – to powerful sides, Outeniqua, Paarl Gim and Noord-Kaap.

Garsfontein's best results were probably beating Glenwood 48-26 and drawing with EG Jansen 36-36. Apart from beating Nelspruit, Waterkloof beat Paarl Boys' High 26-20.

Past results are not relevant this year when Garsies have really come into their own.
