Kroonstad painted Red
Kroonstad was painted red when Rooiskool ran in five tries to thump Blouskool 36-3 in a Classic Clash on Saturday.
Rooiskool held a slender 5-3 at the half-time interval before the floodgates opened up and Blouskool had no answer to the barrage of attacks.
The Classic Clash is one of the biggest and entertaining events hosted by the schools. The build-up to the festivities start on at the beginning of the week as learners are entertained.
There was an electric atmosphere on matchday, with both sets of supporters optimistic their side would claim the bragging rights. War cries and songs echoed through Blouskool as the anticipation for the big match grew.
No less than 3000 spectators packed into the stands to witness an exhilarating and physical encounter with both teams giving it their best.
Bloues took the early lead when Henro de Vos slotted a penalty but Rooies replied soon after thanks to a Harold Hills try. That proved to be the only points of a highly physical first half with the visitors holding a narrow two-point lead.
Rooies took full advantage of having the wind behind them in the second half and gradually gained the momentum in the contest, which resulted in two quick tries. This sparked Bloues into action but the harder they tried, lady luck was just not with them on the day as they bore the brunt of some unfavourable bounces of the ball.
The physical encounter came to an end with Rooies walking away with a comprehensive 36-3 victory, however, Bloues can hold their heads high as they never gave up and contributed to a wonderful game.
Following the loss, Bloues coach Tjaart du Plessis managed to give what is possibly the best quote of the year, saying: "When nothing goes right, go left and it is hard to beat a person that never gives up."
