LeRoi le Roux - Hoerskool Transvalia Captain

Transvalia skipper idolises Jerry Collins

Hoerskool Transvalia of Van der Bijl Park host HTS Vereeniging in an FNB Classic Clash on Saturday. Born in Vereeniging on 30 September 1988 and having attended Laerskool Kollegepark, LeRoi le Roux has the honour of captaining Transvalia from the No.8 position.

LeRoi is in Grade 12 and is a prefect, or to put it correctly, he is on the student council at Transvalia.

LeRoi has played loose forward, either flank or No.8, his whole life and therefore is technically very proficient in his position. At 1.92 metres and 104 kilograms, he is a big boy who excels in the loose and as a ball-carrier. He also assured us that his defence is also very sound.

LeRoi never made the Craven Week team last year, but was appointed captain of the Gauteng team that attended the USSASA Winter Ball Games. He is hoping to make the Falcons Craven Week team this year and from there follow his brother to Tukkies where he hopes to study B.Sc. (Property) and play rugby. LeRoi admires the play of New Zealander Jerry Collins. Like Jerry, LeRoi is a strong ball-carrier and defender, who gives everything for the full 80 minutes of every game.

HTS Vereeniging may have won last years game, but Transvalia have a recent 33-17 win over HTS Vereeniging in the Super 16 as a huge confidence booster. Transvalia have had an up-and-down season thus far and LeRoi admits that his team have battled slightly in the Super 16. He is confident, though, that with one or two key players back they will perform much better in the league.

LeRoi says his pack of forwards are his team's strength, but that they have yet to prove him right on the field. There can surely be no better time for them to do so than in the biggest game of the season. With key players back in the team, LeRoi le Roux and Transvalia must be firm favourites at home for a derby win on Saturday.

This is the local derby though and a very big game. The Grade 12s especially look forward to this fixture with a special sense of excitement, as do the underdogs!
