Lions add new face to coaching stock
Erasmus, who will work with the Lions Juniors, will join the side on November 1.
The former Glenwood head coach has made a remarkable impact in the junior rugby fraternity.
He was at Glenwood for 13 years – coaching all age groups from U12 before being appointed as head coach in 2007.
During his tenure at Glenwood, Erasmus was appointed Assistant KZN Craven Week coach in 2011, as well as the Sharks, U19 forwards coach in 2009 where he brushed shoulders with current Lions' Super Rugby coach Swys de Bruin.
Erasmus left Glenwood in 2014 to join Paarl Boys – SA's No 1-ranked school.
The Lions’ juniors have dominated the league in recent years with the U19 successfully defending their national title in 2017 after winning it in 2016 and the U21 side winning the competition in 2016 and reaching the semi-final last year – the appointment of Erasmus will definitely enhance the Union's dominance at junior level.
Erasmus joins the team of Mziwakhe Nkosi, Bafana Nhleko, Wessel Roux and Herkie Kruger.
Recently, SA Rugby announced that Nhleko will act as assistant coach for the SA U20 side this year, following hot on the heels of the Lions’ Super Rugby defence coach Joey Mongalo, who was part of the SA U20 coaching staff in 2016
Commenting on the appointment, Rudolf Straeuli, the CEO of the Lions Rugby Company, says Erasmus will bolster the ranks of the coaching staff at the LRC.
"Sean will definitely bolster the ranks of our coaches which already consist of some sterling names," Straeuli confirmed.
