Marne Coetzee - Captain of Glenwood
Glenwood captain Marne Coetzee is a rugby player with ambition and his next goal is to swat aside local rivals DHS in their derby clash this weekend.
The intimidating 1.80-metre, 115kg SA Schools tighthead prop moved down to Durban from Waterkloof last year and claims that it was the best choice he ever made.
Coetzee played for the Blue Bulls at the Under-16 Grant Khomo Week and at Craven Week last year, but made the move down to the coast in the best interests of his future as he plans to attend the Sharks academy and pursue a professional rugby career in Durban.
Although Glenwood have been through some mixed results this season, losing to Westville and Kearsney, Coetzee says that those results are behind them now and explained that they have made some important changes to their game.
"The team that plays on Saturday is not the same team that lost to Westville. We have got a new team with new structures," he said.
Coetzee, who can play all three positions in the front row, knows that although Glenwood have had the better of DHS in recent years, the local rivalry will inspire the opposition to produce their best.
"It is going to be a hard game but we have prepared well and the confidence in our team is high after a big win over Pinetown last week," explained the Glenwood skipper.
Coetzee will look to lead the charge and put some pressure on DHS up front, with his strong scrummaging sure to be a factor. And although he expects a "fast, running game" from the opposition, he feels that his side are well-placed to secure victory on Saturday.
